From 1839 to 1842 china and great Britain fought a war called the opium wars.Opium is a medicine grown in India. It is used to relieve pain, help with sleeplessness, and reduce hunger and thirst.If not used properly it can be very addictive and dangerous.Opium comes from a plant called the poppy.Opium is used to make morphine and heroin. The Chinese government outlawed the import of Opium because of the debilitating effects of the drug.When the Chinese government first discovered opium smoking in the country in 1729, government promoted policies to prohibit the sale of opium for smoking, and shut down and banned opium-smoking houses. At the time, it became a very serious offense to sell opium for smoking purposes. It was classified in the same category as robbery and murder. The punishment was either banishment or execution.When the Chinese government attempted to turn back English merchant vessels in late 1839, which encouraged the British to consider war as the next possible strategy. Soon thereafter, British merchants made an appeal to their government. Ultimately, Great Britain demanded that China put an end to the anti-opium campaign.
In 1840, British gunboats arrived and attacked China, destroying many coastal cities. This was known as the First Opium War. It was also the very first drug war in the history of the world. China, being unaware of the British attack, was unprepared for the attack and unprepared to deal with the advanced technologies of the British. China was behind when it came to the use of modern weapons. China was eventually defeated by Great Britain, and was forced to sign the Treaty of Nanjing in 1842, and the British supplementary Treaty of the Bogue in 1843, which indicted Lin and held the Chinese government responsible for the compensation of the amount of opium that was destroyed during the anti-opium campaign. The Treaty of Nanjing concluded the Opium War and further opened up many ports in China, such as Guangzhou, Jinmen, Fuzhou, Ningbo, and Shanghai, to British trade as well as residence. The trigger to the Second Opium War was the dispute over the former treaties and the boarding of the British ship Arrow. The Second Opium War is also known as the Lorcha Arrow War. Besides England, France, Russia, and the United States were involved in the war that lasted until 1858. The Second Opium War ended with the Treaty of Tianjin. The British forced China to sign this treaty by burning up the imperial summer palace, also known as the Yuan Ming Yuan.

Some of the hardships that the Europeans faced with trying 2 find the source of the Nile river, the African tribes that already inhabited the land which the Europeans was traveling on.Also Africa's surface was littered with jagged rocks with made it hard for them to walk across Africa.In the movie mountains of the moon one of the travelers succumbed to a illness where your legs cannot move, so i saw that illness was a factor. It is strange that the source of the Nile river in Africa is named after a British queen because it is in Africa ,also I think it is strange because it is not like the explorers was the ones to find it there was already people who frequented it. The one advantage that the British had against the Africans was guns. The Africans had never seen anything like it. They were trading the guns for African supplies,but the Africans did not realize how destructive they were until they were used against them to conquer there land. The thing that help the Europeans successfully take over Africa was the invention of the machine gun.Not like the single shot pistol the Europeans use to carry the machine gun was able to continuously shot bullets.While the Africans had spears to protect themselves the Europeans was shooting lead at them.

karl max was of german descent but ideas changed russian history.Marx ideas was known as communism. He didnt take to the way workers and factories conditions were. he beleived that workers should control their own habitat and work envirnment. He also thought people should be given as much as they need and not a penny more. He organized and told workers to revolt against the factory owners. Marx died in 1883.Six years after Marx's death, engles(a partner of marx's)and others founded the "Second International" as a base for continued political activism. This organization was far more successful than the First International had been, containing mass workers' parties, particularly the large and successful Social Democratic Party of Germany, which was predominantly Marxist in outlook. This international collapsed in 1914, however, in part because some members turned to Edward Bernstein's "evolutionary socialism", and in part because of divisions precipitated by World War I.

that a persons loyalty is not to his king but to his country,a nation of people that
share the same common culture and history as that person.You are being nationalistic by
the way u dress,by joining the army or by celebrating 4 of july.
Nationalism was the motivation to create nation states.Nationalist beleived that people should not pledge their loyalty to their king but to the people of the nation that shared a common bond.They also beleived that people of one nation oro be a ancestory should unite under one single government.In those times nationalism detroyed countries but also help build them italy was one of the states that it help build while detroying great ones.Before italy was united it use to be broken up.nationalism united it because the nationalist spread and got people to unite to form a power ful nation.

Robespierre and the Reign of Terror

After the french revolution the people was promised a democracy in which the government gets its power from the people.After the revolution the country went into the reign of terror. This time period a man by the name Maximilien Robespierre. He tried to get rid of any body of
the old regime.He got rid of the churches because he thought it was old fashion and got rid of the resting day(Sunday). He ruled France as dictator. His rule was called the Reign of Terror, because so many people were executed by the government. And no one was safe.
The Reign of Terror happened when a radical club named the Jacobins toke power over France and started executing people ,that was apart of the old regime, in public. they even tried the King for treason and found him guilty and cut his head off in the middle of the town square with a popular killing machine called the guillotine. This is the method they used to kill alot of people back then .The guillotinewould chop ur head off and it would fall into a basket.

In the U.S. Constitution the rights that Thomas Jefferson is talking about is the right to change the government or even run for a elected government official. He is talking about the right to vote for your official leaders and that if they don't please the people even the right to impeach or over throw them out of government office.
Thomas Jefferson wrote that god created all men equaly with rights as humans and to make sure these rights are respected governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.He also mentioned that the governments gets its power from the people.

There was two theories of how the universe was setup some say that it was set up in a geocentric meaning that it was believed that the earth was the center of the universe like the bible states.Also that the sun stars and other planets orbits around the earth.This idea was believed by many people back in those times but it was made popular by a man named Ptolemy.

Heliocentric is an idea that the sun is the center of the universe and in fact the earth and other planets orbits around it.This theory was setup by religious figure according to the bible and its book genises.This idea comes from the thought that god made humans in his image so they must be the center of the earth.This is what the chatholic church taught to their congragation.

Galileo belived in the idea copernicus taught and that is that the sun is the center of the universe and that every thing revolves around the sun. The catholic church believed that the earth was the center of the universe. But when Galileo finnaly found proof and evidence to prove his theory the church silenced him with a trail. Galileo was scared that the church might excummunicate him so he addmited that he was wrong and that the ideas of Copernicus was wrong and he was not justified with goin against church beliefs because the church is always right.As he strolled out of the court room he whispered under his breath that the earth revolves around the sun and it makes no difference.

The Scientific Method was an idea how to solve scientific problems that was thought of during the scientific revolution.The scientific method is devised of four steps.

1. Observe some aspect of the universe.
2. Invent a tentative description, called a hypothesis, that is consistent with what you have observed.
3. Use the hypothesis to make predictions.
4. Test those predictions by experiments or further observations and modify the hypothesis in the light of your results.

5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until there are no discrepancies between theory and experiment and/or observation.

Theory of Evolution VS Theory of Creation

Theory of Evolution is that all life is related to one another organisms,and that all life started from one organism and just mutated and advanced to form things.Darwin also had a theory of natural selection. the theory was that small mutations happened over time to adapt to the organisms surroundings. He believed that this process was a slow but true one. This theory is proved by scientific studies about the theory of evolution. Darwin made a theory of the way we were form and he would be known for his great discovery.

Creationism is a religious belief that all life was made by one being that is GOD. Creationism is usually based on the creation according to Genesis.the Theory is that every thing was created by god. and the first two people on earth was Adam and eve.

I don't have a opinoin on this subject i agree with both of these theories .I beleive that all people are some how related in their genes and dna and i beleive their is a power beyond man that we would probaly never prove is there.
